The objective of the OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Education and Training Management qualification is to develop a learner’s practical teaching skills and prepare them to work in a wide range of educational and training contexts.

The Level 4 units introduce relevant education and training principles and practices. These units include both theoretical and practical content, and learners will be able to gain knowledge and skills in the areas of education and training programme design, learner engagement, and planning and monitoring their own work as well as evaluating the quality of education and training provision. They will also learn about the importance of reflecting on their current practice, identifying their own learning needs and professional development. A Successful completion of this qualification will support learners progressing to university, and to provide learners with the requisite skills and knowledge to enter the world of work in their chosen sector.

OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification that includes a mandatory practical teaching component. All learners must complete 100 hours of teaching practice, with a minimum of eight observed sessions, totaling at least eight hours of observation.

The aim of this diploma is to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to demonstrate professional competence in teaching. This includes planning and delivering learning sessions, negotiating individual learning goals, applying a range of teaching and learning strategies, managing communication effectively, and assessing learners’ progress. Optional units offer the opportunity to explore specific areas related to professional practice in greater depth.

This qualification is intended for teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers, or instructors working in further education colleges, adult and community learning centres, training providers, or workplace learning environments. This includes charitable, community-based, private, or public sector organisations.

To achieve this diploma, learners must accumulate a minimum of 120 credits: 75 credits from the mandatory units in Group A, and at least 45 credits from optional units in Group B.

To be awarded the qualification by OTHM, candidates must meet all requirements, including completion of mandatory and optional units as well as satisfactory teaching practice.
